- Our LECReD - Low Emission Climate Resilient Development team just concluded a four day visit to #Laamu Atoll, to assess the existing capacities of local councils. Throughout various engagements, councils have attributed this lack of capacity as one of the factors deterring local development. Building capacities of councils and councillors working at the local level is especially important, in order to help them deliver results more effectively. By investing in people on the ground, we are helping those at the heart of development to strengthen their ability to fulfill their mission, in turn enhancing their agenda to bring about a positive impact on lives and communities. The findings of this capacity assessment would be put towards formulating an action plan and training plan that would be applied at the island level. In addition to the numerous study tours, multi-sector dialogue sessions, and planning workshops carried out under the LECReD Programme, this is an important step to ensure the sustainability of the local councils' efforts, even in the absence of such programmes.
