Environment and Energy
The implementation of sound environment and energy policies are essential for sustained development in Maldives. UNDP works alongside the Government of Maldives to mitigate and adapt to impacts of climate change, and facilitates access, by vulnerable island communities, to improved environment management measures. Continued and enhanced support is envisioned in disaster risk reduction capacity strengthening as well as adoption of low carbon lifestyles and achieving carbon neutrality.
UNDP is supporting in sustainable management of the natural environment, climate change adaptation, and increased livelihood resilience. At the community level, UNDP, with the Government, local communities, and the private sector, has concluded a project to ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable use of the natural resources in Baa Atoll, which saw Baa Atoll being declared a UNESCO biosphere reserve and a Baa Atoll Conservation Fund being set up. more
