The country is also on course to reducing child mortality and improving maternal health. However, the remaining challenges of achieving environmental sustainability and gender equality can only be met with innovative and effective policies.

Using the latest data from Census 2006 and other reliable sources, the report tracks the progress of Maldives on 13 MDG targets and assesses whether the Maldives will achieve the targets by 2015.

With only five years left before the MDG target date, it is useful to review progress and plan for the remaining period in the context of the Government’s focus on five key priority areas: macroeconomic reform, public sector reform, good governance, social development and adaptation to climate change.

OUR WORK - MDGs

The United Nations Millennium Declaration adopted by the Maldives and other members of the United Nations on 8 September 2000 was a strong commitment to the right to development, peace and security, gender equality, environmental sustainability, human development and eradication of poverty.
