Hence, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to UNDP Maldives, International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR) and European Commission (EC) for providing all the necessary support in developing this SEOP Guide. This Guide will help us to increase the level of awareness of risks in schools.

  • May 31, 2006Developing a Disaster Risk Profile for MaldivesThis study provides a comprehensive risk analysis of Maldives with description of various hazards, vulnerabilities and potential damage and loss scenarios. The analysis provides the most complete hazard mapping exercise of the country till date and it is based on geographical evidence, historical data and projections of future hazards. It likewise assesses the complete range of vulnerabilities to multiple hazard events, which will inform coping and adaptive strategies for communities at risk.

  • Sep 30, 2009Cost Benefit Study of Disaster Risk Mitigation MeasuresThe report, Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) of the Disaster Risk Mitigation Measures in Three Islands in the Maldives, is the first study of its kind undertaken in the Maldives. It supports evidence based decision making for national policy makers in the reduction of national disaster risk, while strengthening adaptive capacity in the country.

Sustainable development in the Maldives is inextricably linked to the effective management of the environment and natural resources. Geographically, Maldives is one of the most vulnerable nations to the effects of climate change impacts such as sea level rise. Protecting the environment and natural resources is equally critical to sustainable livelihoods and the Maldives economy, as it is to its survival. UNDP is supporting in sustainable management of the natural environment, climate change adaptation, and increased livelihood resilience.
